MVYO Meriema and Young Rising Star from Phek district registered wins at the ongoing 20th NSF Martyr’s Memorial Trophy 2019 at Kohima local ground on Monday.
Young Rising Star put on an impressive show against KVSU Kijumetouma village to pull through a stunning victory via tie breaker 4-2 after the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Kijumetouma team despite having quality players like Hekato Aye, Kevizhapu Lhoungu, Salu Kulim, Johhny Ritse and goalkeeper Lhiwete Koza in their fold, the team were two goals down in first half. Shevosayi Vero opened the account for Rising Stars in the 13th minute and Nüsezo Kezo doubled the lead in 29th minute.
In the second half, KVSU fought back and got their break through when Johnny headed the ball past Young Rising Star keeper. KVSU got the equaliser through an own goal from Vekusu Chuzho who headed Salu’s crossing back into its own net in the 48th minute. However, there was not much opportunity from both sides as the match ended in 2-2 draw.
During the penalty shootout, Young Rising Star goalkeeper Huveto Yhoubuh managed to save Keduoneizo Zhala shot, while Johnny shot the ball wide off the target as the Phek team won the shootout by 4-2 to move into the next round. Young Rising Stars will play against Chumu Town FC on October 2.
Earlier, in the first match, MVYO Meriema outclassed Fantastic 11 FC by 7-1.
Vikeduolie Lhousi scored a hat-trick with his goals coming in the 8th, 58th and 69th minute.
Vizotuolie Lhousi (8th), Khrieneituo Kezieo (27th), Kevirütuo (39th) and Rokuovolie Phewhuo (65th) also scored a goal each for MVYO.
The lone goal for Fantastic 11 FC came through the boots of Lamgougin Hansing in 20th minute.
MVYO Meriama will play against Jovial FC in the second round on October 2.
