There have been a couple of bizarre instances where teams have got bundled out for paltry totals but what the Kasaragod U-19 girls team achieved against Wayanad will be remembered for a long time.
Many say that cricket is a funny game. Well, a match between Kasaragod Under-19 girls team versus Wayanad at the Perinthalmanna Cricket stadium completely signifies why cricket is regarded as a funny game by some. In the inter-district match, Kasaragod captain S Akshatha won the toss and elected to bat first with a hope that the batters would put up a show while posting a competitive total on the scoreboard. But little did she think that the entire batting order would walk back to the dugout in a blink of an eye.
Yes, the Kasaragod U-19 girls team was bundled out for just four runs while everyone scoring nothing above a duck. Four runs on the scoreboard came due to extras as the Akshatha-led outfit posted a total of just four runs for the opposition team.
Interestingly, every dismissal in the inning was bowled – making it a bizarre as well as a unique statistic in cricket history. However, all batters, including the one who remained not-out, failed to get off the mark.
Chasing the five-run target, the Wayanad openers knocked the ball around to chase the total in the very first over as they won the match by 10 wickets.
Notably, Kasaragod openers, S Chaitra and K Veekshitha had played out a couple of overs but it went downhill when Wayanad skipper Nithya Loordh took over the bowling duties in the third over of the match. Loordh picked up three wickets in her first over, starting the process of frequent dismissals of Kasaragod batters as they were bundled out for just four runs.
There have been a couple of bizarre instances when a team got bundled out for paltry totals but what the Kasaragod U-19 girls team achieved against Wayanad will be remembered for a long time due to the uniqueness of the events and of course, the scoreline.
